Need I say more?
Sweet Midnight….you may be gone, but I have no doubt you are watching over your family each and every day from dobe heaven.
Early last month I received a request from a local photographer for me to come and capture a doberman named Midnight. You see the family was not prepared for such devastating news, but Midnight had developed cancer in her hind leg and the prognosis was not promising. Midnight had already been limping around for some time due to her arthritis, but the cancer was making things much worse. So it was her time to move on and so Midnight’s mom contacted me for a session.
At first I was very nervous, a photographer (a real photographer) wanted me to come and capture her pet. What if I don’t manage to capture Midnight in how they see her everyday? Oi, that was a dreaded thought. And what about Midnight herself, would she be cooperative and make any attempts to look at the camera or would she be shy and refuse to look at me? Would her pain show through? I was incredibly nervous that morning, but as soon as I stepped through the door and saw Midnight and her family I was at ease.
Midnight smiled, ran, jumped, sniffed, and was a ball of joy for the entire session. In fact, she was an angel. And had I not known about the cancer, I never would of suspected such a horrible disease was afflicting this sweet and gentle giant!
Now that’s a dobe stance if I’ve ever seen one…..

Midnight was especially happy about the warm, morning sun and so was I.

She’s beautiful, right??
_______
Kim - thank you for an amazing opportunity. May each day be a little easier and I am certain I will never forget what a gentle soul Midnight was
I was beyond excited when I received an email from the new family that adopted Toby from WT earlier this year and they wanted a session with me (on a side note, Toby’s mom and dad donated a Kuranda bed to the Gladwin shelter and I hear they are going to good use)!
Anyways, back to Toby. He came to WT heartworm positive and was previously on doggie death row, but that wasn’t about to stop our hardworking volunteers. A few rounds of heartworm treatment and lots of love later, Toby was adopted to a great family in the local area. He now has a huge backyard to run and play in, not to mention a feline friend (Vlad) to hang out with. I remember Toby as an absolute gentleman when I had the chance to photograph him for his petfinder profile before and I had no doubts he would be the same this time around. We had an absolute blast and there are a couple of sneak peeks below!
Toby enjoying the view in his backyard, it’s a little moody - but I love it!

Serious Toby profile view……

Smiling Toby….what a handsome guy!
More to come
Okay, let’s be honest. One blog post about Willow just isn’t enough. She’s too cute not to share more.
I know her family is anxiously waiting her images to be complete! So….the first image is Willow and her human siblings….if you check out her blog, she mentions them quite frequently. I laughed with joy when I opened that image on my computer….that particular shot was not planned, but it turned out better than I ever could have imagined. And the second image is all about the view from above (in bw, of course, because that is Willow mom’s favorite). And no, that’s not gray hair….that’s Willow’s amazing grizzle. I love it!!

Till next time…..
Last weekend I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting (are you ready for this)….an airedale! Willow is her name and spunky is her game.
Willow is a very special dog for two important reasons, first and foremost - she’s a black airedale. Anyone familar with the breed will note that most airedales are tan/black. Black (and red) airedales are much harder to come by since they are not as accepted by the airedale purist community and therefore, more rare (thanks to Robin for that tidbit). Secondly, Willow is even more special because she has her own blog. Yes, you heard correctly - HER own blog read and viewed by many across the country and even internationally!
I spent the afternoon with Willow’s family and their awesome 2.5 acre backyard running around for hours. The weather was beautiful (an awesome mix of sun and clouds) and I couldn’t have asked for a better model or family to bond with. Without further ado, Willow in all her adorable glory……

A dog intensive post….well, just because we haven’t had one in a while now!
I’m in need of a few folks who are dog owners, so if that’s you listen up
If you (or a close friend) have a dog and wouldn’t mind spending an hour or so in the park with me and my camera, please email me. There is not a specific breed or age I am looking for, but rather a low-key, friendly canine who likes to have their picture taken (ummm, okay - let’s be honest, there are few of those). I mean a low-key, friendly canine who can be persuaded to look in the direction of the camera with delicious treats! In return for a release, I can offer you five high-resolution images on a CD to do whatever your heart desires.
Also, keep in mind that Christmas is truely not that far away. If you dread the christmas card shopping and autographing, let me make it easy for you. Schedule a session for you and your spouse, family, or just the kids and let me do the christmas card designing. I have a selection of christmas cards that can be custom printed with your holiday message and delivered to your home with envelopes ready to address and stamp. Thinking you don’t want to get in front of the camera…..people love pets on cards, so think about featuring your canine (and feline) friends this season!
And what’s a post with some pictures??!! Without further adeu….Kadie and Paco.

Also, you might have heard about Chai, the golden, who had his tongue amputated after a freak accident with a play ball. I urge you to read Chai’s story and spread the message about these type of toys as I fear other dogs have experiences with similar products. (NOTE: I’m not about boycotting this one company in particular or any others for that matter, however I am about saving a dog pain, so if you own a ball with a related description I suggest you think about throwing it away)
I was lucky enough to be invited back to the Richardson’s home to snap a few more photos of their three month old son. Little B has the bluest eyes I have seen in quite a while and I imagine he is going to be quite the little heartbreaker. He certainly is an entertainer and I enjoyed spending the morning with this perfect little gentleman. Check out the hand propped under his chin the second one, he did that one all by himself!

The next two I just couldn’t resist. Little B was quite happy that morning and let me in on a little secret. He came out of womb with boxing skills - amazing!!

Thanks again to the Richardson’s for letting me spend a fantastic morning in their home, laughing and smiling the whole way through!

On a side note, don’t forget we are (yes, I’m going to say the dreaded phrase) getting closer to Christmas. Please email me for information about scheduling a holiday themed session complete with christmas cards for your loved ones!
Very early yesterday morning I discovered a message with the best news….

Greetings Teresa,
Congrats! I’m writing to let you know that your photo, ‘And they called it puppy love…’ has been named an overall 3rd place (tied) winner as well as a ‘Best Puppy Portrait’ winner in the PawPrints Photo Contest on dogpixandflix.com. We’d like you to exhibit the photo at L.A. County Fair’s ‘Bark Park’ art gallery, where it will be on view from September 5-28, 2008.

Me….a winner??!! AWESOME. I am thrilled beyond all imagination.

Her name is Trixie and she came to WT back in early June after she was found wandering the streets in a quiet little town. Being quite the cute puppy, she was quickly adopted but I knew few would be able to resist that precious face.
You can view all of the winners here!!
A little over a week ago, I had the pleasure of meeting the (wonderful) Richardson family at their beautiful home. They had just welcomed a new baby boy into their lives about five weeks earlier and their sweet daughter had celebrated a birthday the week before (the big three). Definately a perfect time to party with new pictures!
So here’s a little sneak peek for mom and dad. Thanks for giving me the chance to come over and hang out for the morning - it was a blast! I imagine a quick dip in the pool wasn’t delayed too long after I left.

I also wanted to mention that when I showed up, Miss M was all ready to photograph me with her Fisher Price (pink) Digital Camera. I had some serious competition going on, not to mention her camera has a better grip than mine.
If you’re little ones are into your camera and you’re in need of an alternative to keep your nerves calm, this would be great.
It’s almost that time of year….no, no!! Not that time, although I must admit Christmas in July sales are something that I do enjoy.
Time to bring out the red, white, and blue in all of us. For the first time, WT will be marching with a float in the Northville 4th of July parade. The committee asked if I wouldn’t mind rounding up between 50 and 60 headshots of the dogs we have rescued over the past 18th months. One side of the float will have an 8 x 8 foot montage of my photographs!! Below is just a rough sample of some of my favorites.
205 lives saved and counting…..
